（1）（表示义务，命令或必要）必须；应当

例：You must be there on time . 你务必要准时到达那里。

（2）（表示不可避免性或肯定性）必然要，必定会

例：What must be will be . 注定要发生的事总要发生。

（3）（表示推定或指具有较大的可能性）很可能，谅必

例：This must be the book you want . 这谅必就是你要的那本书。

（4）（表示请求）可以

例：Must I go now ? 我现在可以去了吗？

（5）（口）必须做的事；必不可少的事物（名词）

例：A safety belt in a car is a must these days . 现今，安全带是汽车的必备之物。

（6）（口）必须做的；极其重要的；绝对必要的

例：a must book 必读书

must not = mustn’t 不应该

2. keep [ki:p]

（1）保有；保存；保留；保守（秘密）

例：Does your watch keep good time ? 你的表走得准吗？

（2）履行（诺言等）；遵守（惯例等）

例：We always keep our word . 我们说话是算数的。

（3）庆祝，过（节）

例：keep Christmas 过圣诞节

（4）防卫，守卫，看守

例：keep goal 守球门

（5）收拾；料理

例：keep a garden料理园子

（6）主持，经营，开设

例：keep a tearoom 经营一个茶室

（7）（美口）进行，（学校）上课

例：Does your school keep all day ? 你们学校全天上课吗？

词组：keep off不接近，让开

例：Keep off the grass ! 勿踏草地！

其本身即是复数形式，因此people指人时不能用people，该词无单数形式。

例：There are ten people on the bus . 车上有10个人。

若说“车上有一个人”不能用“a people”，这时可用a person，a man或a woman

10. respect尊敬，敬重

respect old people尊敬老人

  11. ground地，地面，场所……场

      [au]

例：fishing ground 渔场    a football ground足球场

 

（二）理解、掌握下列语法现象：

1. Don’t + 动词原形：表示不要……

    例：Don’t litter . 不要乱丢杂物。

2. No + 动词现在分词：禁止……

例：No littering . 禁止乱丢杂物

 

（三）第五课译文：

Look out ! You mustn’t cross the road now . 当心！你现在不应该过马路。

You must wait for the green light . 你必须等绿灯。

You mustn’t spit on the ground . 你不应该往地上吐痰。

You mustn’t litter . 你不应该乱丢杂物。

You must keep off the grass . 你应该不进入草地。

You mustn’t pick the flowers . 你不该摘花。

We must take good care of young children . 我们应该好好照顾小孩。
